Get to know Me

Hello!

My name is Ashley Evercott and I am an aspiring author. I write fantasy romance with low to no steam romance (fade to black etc). I love tension, angst, banter, and the one-bed trope. I am excited to start my author journey and hope to publish within this year or early next year.

In the meantime, here is some fun “get to know me” questions I found floating around the internet:

1. Shark diving, bungee jumping, or skydiving?

Honestly, all of these options are nightmare fuel to me. I am deathly afraid of heights and anything scuba-diving-related. Out of all the options, however, I would probably pick bungee jumping because there’s a harness and cord that’s supposed to keep me safe. I guess I’m just not the huge adventurer type even if I like to imagine characters who are!

2. What’s your favorite Disney movie?

Ah, it is so hard to pick just one, however, I found my go-to will forever be the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I grew up watching this when others were banned from watching it due to its dark nature. I will say, though, most of the “dark” stuff went way over my head as a kid and I only understood the themes of corruption, lust, emotional abuse, and prejudice as an adult.

Everything about it is gorgeous. The songs, the animation, and the message just tug at my heartstrings. And every single time Quasimodo lifts Esmerelda up in the air and yells, “Sanctuary!” I get chills.

Every. Time.

If you haven’t watched this film, I highly recommend it. It does tackle very dark themes but I feel it is an important film that has aged well for our times.

3. What “old person” things do you do?

Does going to bed by 8:30 pm or 9:00 pm count? haha

4. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Definitely an introvert 100%. Even being around crowds can be exhausting to me but I am not shy to talk to people if they strike a conversation with me, I just don’t seek it out myself most of the time.

5. If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be?

Probably a Chameleon. They can be unsure and shy. They’re a little goofy, colorful, and don’t need to cover a lot of ground to be happy. I think that fits me.

6. If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Will read romance to escape reality.

7. What did you want to be when you were small?

I actually wanted to become an author and so I’m trying to live up to that dream.

8. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car?

I would rather ride a bike on a nice little path and not by speeding traffic, thank you. I have done that and I do not wish to experience it again, haha.

9.  What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most?

I don’t listen to the radio as much anymore but the “genres” I have been listening to most lately have been metal and musicals, haha.

10. What is your WIP (work in progress) about?

It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a twist! I know there are hundreds of retellings but the theme of this is something close to my heart. It is a slow-burn, sweet, fantasy romance with historical inspiration. Here’s a rough logline:

To save her family, Marguerite must force herself to love a beast, but the curse can only be broken if both are willing to abandon their heart’s desires
